How to Access America Online Using Mo-Net.Com

Note: It is possible to access America Online using your Mo-Net.Com connection. If you have an AOL account already set up, then just follow the instructions below. If you do not have an AOL account and want to go online with them, find one of their MANY free disks that you probably have laying around, install the software, allow the program to connect you (long distance) and complete registration, then sign off, and follow the instructions below.

These instructions are for AOL versions 2.5 and 3.0.

  1. Log on to Mo-Net as usual, using your existing dial-up networking connection.
  2. Start your AOL software.
  3. Click SETUP when the sign on screen appears.
  4. Click on EDIT LOCATION.
  5. Select TCP/IP from NETWORK options.
  6. SAVE
  7. Click OK.
  8. Sign on to AOL

These instructions are for AOL versions 1.5 or 2.0

  1. Establish Mo-Net connection.
  2. Click on SETUP on the sign on screen.
  3. Click on SETUP MODEM.
  4. Select the TCP/IP (Winsock) release that corresponds to your version of AOL. (1.5 for 1.5, etc.)
  5. Click on OK to save.
  6. Click on OK to return to sign on screen.
  7. Sign on to AOL.

These instructions are for AOL on the Macintosh

You must have System 7 or 6.0.5 with communications tool box. You must have AOL for Mac version 2.5.1 or higher. You must have MACTP version 2.0.6 or higher.

  1. Sign on to Mo-Net.
  2. Select TCP Connection from the LOCALITY menu on sign on screen
  3. Sign on.

Remember, when you are finished with your AOL session, you must disconnect your connection to Mo-Net.Com unless you are going to use other internet software. DISCONNECTING FROM AOL DOES NOT DISCONNECT YOU FROM YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION!

I STRONGLY recommend you do not use AOL for internet access. The AOL browser, even in version 3.0, is totally inferior to either Netscape or IE 3.0. AOL does provide some quality areas that are otherwise unavailable on the internet, but their internet access tools stink.

Please note: AOL now offers unlimited access for $9.95 per month with their "Bring Your Own Access" plan (plus $3 if you use the checking payment option). By using Mo-Net to connect to AOL, you can avoid all long-distance charges, and have full internet access through Mo-Net plus full access to all of AOL's service. For users in the Monett and Purdy areas, that means full internet access with AOL is only $22.90 per month total. For Shell Knob users, the total cost is $29.90. Both of these prices are FAR below what you would pay for long distance access to AOL alone. (Trust me on that, I've tried it!) However, you MUST notify AOL that you are accessing through an ISP, or they will continue to bill you the full $21.95 rate.
